Karen’s career in the challenge course industry began during her graduate studies in Adaptive Sports at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Connecting her passion and training in working with people with disabilities and that of facilitating on the challenge course has become a lifelong pursuit. Since her initial foray into facilitating over 15 years ago, Karen has delivered challenge course programs to all ages and abilities, created and managed her own challenge course at a private non-profit program, and trained for top builders in the United States. As the Chair of the ACCT Universal and Adaptive Design Committee, Karen has presented internationally at industry conferences, consulted on certification standards and contributed to industry publications. Karen joined the CUI team in 2011.


Karen is a professional skier, an avid mountain biker and runner. Originally from Calgary, she now lives in the southern interior of British Columbia.
